September Program: Tuesday, Sept. 11 at Noon
Panel: Legally Speaking

Do you have questions about succession planning? Might you be considering taking on a Business Partner? Do you have questions about adding a new section to your employee handbook?  Do you recognize that Indiana is an “At-will” state and what that means for protection for both you and your employees?

Come take a respite from doing business and have lunch with us on Tuesday, September 11th, as our legal panel takes on challenging topics and questions from you the audience.

Have a random question for the panel you would like addressed anonymously? Send your questions to Susan Benedict at Susan@MyDesignAlternatives.com before Tuesday, September 8th.

A Word from Our President

Hello!

I hope you made the time to join us at the August meeting.Liz Nichols did a fantastic job of informing us about how to better position our business to get news coverage. I especially appreciated her taking the time to present to our group so soon after having her baby!

Liz helped us understand how the process of choosing a story happens at the station and how better to position our business to be covered in the news and as the "Go To" business for our industry. Hopefully, you were able to join us for her presentation, but if not here are a few of the things we learned. As someone who often worries that I am sending TOO many emails about events, I was happy to hear that sending 3-4 emails is not too many. Things that could help get your story covered are; stories that affect a large number of people, stories dealing with public safety, and stories that will get people talking. And, if you want to be that "Go To" business, you need to be ready and willing to go on camera on short notice. So, always be CAMERA READY!

Here’s to hoping we see a lot more AWBO businesses in the news soon!

Yours,

Julie Rubsam

Member Spotlight: Shirley Pence
When Shirley Pence became a Stanley Steemer franchise owner 35 years ago, virtually all home floors were carpeted. Flooring and upholstery options have certainly changed over the years. Being willing to embrace new technology, equipment systems, and customer busy lifestyles while developing honest, hard-working, customer service-oriented employees is the key to the business' success. Quality people, quality equipment and quality service has long been the Stanley Steemer mantra. Shirley also enjoys being involved in her church, business groups, and community volunteer opportunities, especially those related to education. Her hobbies include decorating, entertaining, and landscaping. Her 3 adult children and their spouses are the joy of her life along with her grandson and newly announced grandchild coming in early March!
